Finally, after 14 weeks, my design is complete. In john's words-long story short, my design was heavily influenced by the surround natural landscape. i wanted my design to fit, and engage with the landscape, rather than be inferior, and not engaging the its surroundings, hence the organic curved shape in the plan. Heavily influenced in the final stages of design by Gregory Burgess, i played with the roof form, and the playground ground, to combine the built environment. Having the rooms under the mound, especially the large multi purpose room, creates a tension with the large gym, via a dozen trees in parallel, creating a picturesque view like Tadao Aando's church on water. If i move toward the form, all the facilities are grouped together like a rocks ina river, yet have pockets of release, through gaps revelaing the view to beautiful coogee beach. If you see the western elevation, there is a succession from natural environment, to built; so one would see a natural green grass mound, followed by a concrete base, with uneven rustling tree canopy above, flowing on to the large gym with its slender slits in the all wooden construction, giving the design a gentle and natural feel to it.

i must say, that this term hasnt been the easiest for me by an means, and John can tell you all about that. However, for me, this term has been one of much learning, and i know that through John, even though sometimes it was really downgrading, i must say im very thankful for his guidance. thanks John.

In this design, i was advised to put my design on a diet, and shrink it into the size of the site,whilst still keeping in all the previous ideas... this didnt go too well... i had a bit too much 'fun' with the roof structure, and the form of the large gym hall which was described as 'schizophrenic', so its a step back in my design process, and was advised to go back to my previous design, and start again. Hopefully the next design will come out better.

This next design was more carefully thought through. It is influenced by the form of the coastline, and the progression through the spaces, giving the rooms which i saw fit, the best possible view for the people inside the space. Playing with the roof formation was a major aspect, depicting the unpredictable sculpture of rock formations due to water erosion. the center area is like an italian Piazza, open, natural, and welcoming, funneling people through the buildings which opens up to the vast oval space. apparently this is on the right track, so ill continue with it in a positive way!

Well i have a couple of hints:
1: ALWAYS SAVE... every second u do something, SAVE IT!
2: Always consult the Russell...
3: DONT USE THE SCALING TOOLS!!!... dont be lazy, just re-do the thing, ull be thankfull in the future...
4:Go simple, then get more complicated
5: If ur movers dissapear, yet are in the game...well...sucked in! coz it happened to me as well :(
6: Patience is a virtue, hence prepare urself for the worst...coz technical difficulties really do stretch your limits... i mean really really...
7: When saving, always change the name, dont use CAPS nor NUMB3RS-shweet show
8: When u first start using the programs, n u have no idea... dont worry, just chill n learn it yea.
9: If u dont like computer games... start liking them.
10: FINALLY NUMBER 10! uuummm...booze... lots n lots of booze once this assignment is finished!! YIIEEWWWW

-The way I think this fused quote relates to my combined cubes, is through the lighting especially in Florence Nightingale's space. Enclosing the light with a desk like figure, allows heavy, bold shadowing, and I believe captures that notion oh emotional pain-Florence's quote, yet in this figure we can also incorporate Darwin's quote, as one must not have any emotions, and keep them all to oneself.

With Nightingale's quote, she has a very sinister look upon her past, incorporating some sort of pain. I interpreted this notion of pain both physical and emotionally. The cut and extrude of the box is meant to portray physical pain, as well as the bar inside the main room (top floor). As for the emotional pain, I tried to capture it in the lighting, where darkness surrounds her, but she was still shining. However, I didn’t really like this sense of pain, so above the bar, I placed blue, as it is my favourite colour :P, lights to signify that there is always hope for a better life later in life, which I also tried to present through the two rooms, one being lit up, the other darker with the light appearing from specific places.

I tried to relate Darwin's space directly to his quote through texture, and simplicity. To have no wishes, no affections, is bland and dull, hence the simple texture, and form of the building. It is bare for this reason. When one is discovering something, one must start from the basics, the bottom and work their way up to the prize. I tried to convey this message through the ramp spiraling around the simple form.
